If you currently pay the ATO by credit card, there is an important change coming that is worth getting sorted now.
From 30 November 2026, the ATO will no longer accept credit card payments.
This is particularly important if you have an ATO payment plan with instalments currently being charged to a credit card. You will need to update your payment method before your first payment due after 30 November. If the scheduled payment can't be processed, you risk falling behind on the terms of your payment plan.
Other payment options, including BPAY and direct debit from a bank account, will continue to be available. You can find the available options on the ATO's How to pay page.
If your payment plan is currently linked to a credit card, our advice is simple: don't leave it until the end of November. Update your payment method now so your next payment goes through as planned.
If you're having trouble keeping up with an ATO payment plan or managing your tax obligations, get in touch with Citrine and we can help you work through your options.
